Darwin L Gilmore Elementary School9

Four of my children are or have attended Gilmore. The school is over crowded! Suzanne Jones is rude and inconsiderate of families. Stay away if you have Gifted/Talented children. They will be pulled out 1 x a week to meet with the GT teacher for about an hour. That's it! Too many bad rules: 1) can't take your child home early after a class party- party ends at 2:15pm, school gets out at 3pm- you wait for 45 min while the children watch a cartoon. 2) Can no longer have younger siblings attending Gilmore watch an older sibling in a school performance or attend each others Christmas parties. 3) Can only have 2 guests per child at class parties- so if you have 2 non school age children plus yourself you cannot attend the party. Or, If you want the child's grandparents plus yourself to attend one grandparent cannot attend. 5) You cannot sit at your child's table with your school age child during lunch. Good- The school is filled with affluent children from well educated homes. I do like the children and their values.

We were truly sad to have to move out of the district. Gilmore Elementary has such a good feeling of community and most of the students/teachers seem very happy. After kindergarten, my daughter was reading on a 3rd grade level! Thank you, Ms. Wittenmeyer! We love you!

We LOVED our time at Gilmore Elementary! I found that the school, the teachers, and principle nurtured my children both academically, and creatively, as well as still encouraging them to be kids and have fun. My children loved going to school and learning here, which has not been the case at some of the other schools we've been in (we've been in 4 different elementary schools due to my husband's career). They were happy to go everyday, all while still excelling scholastically. Just walking through the halls, you can feel the positive energy and school spirit of the teachers and students. Parental involvement is high. Communication b/w administration, teachers, and parents was wonderful. Excellent art teacher as well!! If I could have stayed and raised all 4 of my children attending Gilmore Elementary, I would!

I have a child with Autism and ADHD. The teachers have worked so well with him and they truly LOVE him! I could not PAY for the education he is receiving! They never give up on him! and he is integrated into regular classes!

Gilmore is one of the many amazing schools in ccisd. The art teacher is incredible and develops young, creative artists! the front office is friendly, caring and protective of their large student population. The teachers don't just go the extra mile, most will go the extra 10 miles if that what it takes. The administrators know each student by name and take personal interest in gilmore families. Overcrowding is the big issue, which impacts parking, cafeteria, counselor to student ratio, long traffic lines and more.

Gilmore has been wonderful. We moved here from the NE side of town (Humble School District). We thought he Humble district was great but CCISD and Gilmore staff have been great! My daughter is going into 5th grade and just comleted her second year at Gilmore. School is organized, staff is very cooperative and the school is growing like crazy. The school is nestled inside a great neighborhood as well.

This is a fantastic school. The teachers are excited to teach. They really seem to love the students. Everything is very organized and they always seem to be on the ball! The front office staff can sometimes be a bit frustrating. The rest of the staff (nurse, cafeteria mgr, principal, art and music teacher, even the janitor) are always asking if they can help you in anyway. LOVE THIS SCHOOL!

Gilmore is a truly wonderful school. My daughter was in the first Kindergarten class at Gilmore and now in the first grade. The teachers are all experienced and caring. Leadership is positive and supportive at every level. PTA is very supportive of school needs, program enrichment, and a wonderful group for parents to volunteer a little or a lot of their time. The music and art teachers really expose the kids to many styles of the arts. The school counselors started a program for kids going through divorce which helped kids see that they aren't alone in their experience and sadness. There is YMCA after school program available, art classes, karate, etc. Girls Scouts is offered at the school. It has been a wonderful experience all the way around and I hope it will remain as healthy and positive for all the children throughout the years.

This school opened in 2006. The school is beautiful and the facilities are brand new and of the highest quality. However, Gilmore can be a bit 'elitist' for my taste(having been built inside an exclusive Golf Community) and there isn't the level of diversity that I believe to be important. Also, it seemed that throughout the year, teachers were teaching the TAKS test instead of actual subjects (3rd-5th) though this is a common trend in most of the areas schools. My biggest complaint would be the absence of a foreign language program - with such a high area hispanic population, Spanish courses would have been both helpful and appropriate. In my opinion, overall scholastically a good school with a few problems.

We moved to League City in the aftermath of Katrina. The people here at Gilmore made such an overwelming impression on our family we have deceided tp make League City home. Gilmore is one of the finest schools my wife and I have ever had the privilidge of sending our children to. The teachers and staff are fantastic. What a well run school!

I have one daughter attending Gilmore and my sister has two sons in attendance there. This school has tremendously aided my daughter in her first grade learning skills. She moved to this school 3 months after the year started and has fit in comfortably and made many new friends. She is near the top of her class as far as progress and obedience goes. The teachers are awesome and keep me informed of everything that goes on with her and the school. My sisters sons (2nd and 3rd graders) are challeged everyday with homework and class assignments. They are learning so much and at a faster rate than their previous school. We could not have chosen a better school for our children and are utterly grateful for Darwin L. Gilmore Elementary!
